Abstract

Aim. To analyze and summarize publications concerning the use of electrical percutaneous stimulation of acupuncture points in the treatment of complications of type 2 diabetes, to evaluate the effectiveness, safety and characteristics of therapeutic effects.
Methods. A review of publications in Russian and foreign electronic libraries for the period from 2000 to 2025, with a selection of original articles and research results published in peer-reviewed journals on the results of the use of noninvasive (percutaneous) electrical stimulation of acupuncture points in the treatment of complications of type 2 diabetes in randomized trials with control groups.
Results. The studies included in the review indicate statistically significant improvements in glucose level as result of the use of electrical noninvasive percutaneous stimulation of acupuncture points in the treatment of complications of type 2 diabetes.
Conclusion. Noninvasive (percutaneous) electrical stimulation of acupuncture points can be considered as a method for reduction of glucose level in the treatment of complications of type 2 diabetes.
